[17:43] <stewori> While preparing commits I noticed the NEWS-file is rather out-dated and already was when released with 2.7.1 beta3
[17:44] <stewori> It still sorts bugfixes etc under 2.7.1rc that actually belong to b3.
[17:44] <stewori> Was there a decision to abandon this file or should it be updated?

[18:17] <agronholm> stewori: sounds like it needs an update
[18:24] <stewori> I wonder how this should be done. Going through all closed issues since 2.7.1b2 release is tedious.
[18:25] <stewori> I can add stuff that I was involved into, but for more there should be some plan.
[18:28] <stewori> Just took a look at bugs.jython.org. It is far from obvious how to list issues fixed after 2.7.1b2.
[18:29] <stewori> Best heuristic appears to sort by ID (although there are outliers).
[18:30] <stewori> Did we attempt to have a somewhat complete list of "Bugs fixed" in earlier releases?

[22:59] <jimbaker> agronholm, stewori, an outstanding task is to roll up all the bugs that were fixed in 2.7.1, based on hg log, and update NEWS
[22:59] <jimbaker> it would be nice if our tooling did this, but i have found it also important to do some minor rewriting
[23:00] <jimbaker> takes a few hours to do, so it's not that big of a deal. i took care of it in 2.7.0 prior to RC
[23:01] <jimbaker> re triaging bugs - this is on the other hand imho is not at all trivial and a major time sink
[23:02] <jimbaker> honestly i don't have time for this triage at this point
[23:06] <pdurbin> jimbaker: you might like http://blog.atom.io/2016/04/19/managing-the-deluge-of-atom-issues.html (I did.)
[23:07] <stewori> I am just throuh issues fixed in b3 and rc (so far)
[23:08] <stewori> based on issue tracker I grouped by status, and sorted closed ones by last activity date
[23:08] <jimbaker> stewori, that's awesome
[23:09] <stewori> I reviewed discussion outcomes for issues that were closed without resolution
[23:09] <stewori> or with "accepted" instead of fixed
[23:09] <jimbaker> pdurbin, i think the point of this process for atom, distribute the deluge; and close out fairly aggressively
[23:10] <stewori> however, this is probably not 100% accurate since last activity might not always correspond to the right release, but to waste not more time on this non-crucial stuff I'd suggest to just take this
[23:10] <jimbaker> one interesting thing we have discussed is whether to move to github issues, which would give us more flexible labeling; plus part of the overall ecosystem, so using tools like waffle become possible
[23:11] <jimbaker> stewori, i have found this often can be self correcting, so long as the original poster is still interested
[23:11] <stewori> I'll prepare a commit for this. Original committer could still fill in the new-features-section
[23:12] <jimbaker> stewori, +1
[23:12] <stewori> And I did not investigate b2 and earlier. Someone else can do or we just discard this as legacy issue
[23:12] <pdurbin> jimbaker: I like that they say that issues should have a definition of "done"
[23:13] <jimbaker> put the onus there, nice
[23:14] <jimbaker> so if user stories have acceptance criteria, we can check them off, per agile thinking
[23:16] <pdurbin> yeah
