[11:04] <pangratz> hello!
[11:04] <pangratz> i am looking for a jython.jar which contains the /Lib folder . is something like that available in a maven repository?
[11:08] * juneau001 (~juneau@pool-70-105-107-238.chi.dsl-w.verizon.net) Quit (Quit: juneau001)
[11:10] <agronholm> prolly not...does it absolutely have to be through maven?
[11:14] <pangratz> well, not really a must have. but i was just curious because i haven't found anything yet
[11:15] <pangratz> because on my system the /Lib folder is not located where it should be and that's why i explicitly have to tell jython where this folder is located ...
[11:19] <pangratz> my overall idea is to invoke a python library ( https://github.com/couchapp/couchapp ) within jython so it can be called from java
[11:19] <pangratz> and i am currently struggling to get this working
[11:21] <pangratz> so (currently) i don't need to wrap a python object into a java object; i just want to execute something from the library within java, via for example "PythonInterpreter#exec('from couchapp.dispatch import run')"
[11:27] <agronholm> pangratz: if you want a standalone jar file, you can make one with the jython installer
[11:27] <agronholm> it's one of the choices there
[11:33] <pangratz> agroholm: i have seen that. i was just curious why there is no such .jar yet available in the maven repo. do you see any problem if such a file exits? i mean, i would be executable on every platform, or am i missing something?
[11:33] <agronholm> because 2.5.1 was too buggy to be put on maven
[11:34] <agronholm> 2.5.2 will be
[11:34] <agronholm> once it's final
[11:34] <pangratz> so the 2.5.2 will have a standalone version?
[11:35] <agronholm> it will get the necessary jars uploaded to maven
[11:35] <agronholm> what more do you need?
[11:35] <pangratz> ok, thanks
[11:36] <pangratz> well, i couldn't find any example on the net, which calls some python library from within java using jython ...
[11:36] <pangratz> i am looking at http://wiki.python.org/jython/LearningJython#deployment-and-distribution maybe this will work form me ...

[12:15] <agronholm> pangratz: instantiate a PythonInterpreter and work with that
[12:15] <agronholm> but yeah you knew that already
[12:17] <pangratz> agronholm: i have tried that, but the problem i am facing: how exactly to i tell jython where the python library i am using, is located?! i have tried to set it via PySystemState#path.append('/path/to/my/python-lib') ... is this the correct way?
[12:18] <agronholm> yes
[12:18] <agronholm> sounds like it at least
[12:19] <agronholm> unfortunately I must go now
[12:20] <pangratz> ok, i did that. but i am getting some errors where a module which is tried to be imported (which is actually in the folder itself) cannot be imported ...
[12:20] <pangratz> thanks for your help though. have a nice day/afternoon/night, whatsoever

[13:51] <pangratz> agronholm: i have tried another approach described in http://jython.extreme.st/talk/talk.html, section "Script Deployment"
[13:52] <pangratz> but it is still not working because he can't find/improt some ressources (which are within the module though)
[13:53] <pangratz> executing the module with "python" command works ...
[13:55] <agronholm> so what do you really have packaged

[14:06] * pangratz (~clemens@chello080109148110.tirol.surfer.at) has joined #jython
[14:08] <pangratz> all the .py files from the modules folder, to be more precise, all .py files from: https://github.com/couchapp/couchapp
[14:08] <agronholm> and that's it?
[14:09] <pangratz> and all the files in the PYTHON_HOME/Lib fodler
[14:10] <agronholm> can you put this jar up for me to download and check?
[14:10] <pangratz> ok
[14:13] * enebo (~enebo@67-4-200-194.mpls.qwest.net) has joined #jython
[14:22] <pangratz> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/685386/jythonlib.jar
[14:24] <agronholm> pangratz: ok, so what doesn't work then
[14:25] <pangratz> now i want to execute the couchapp utility, which is now packed into the jar file. this is done like stated in the script: https://github.com/couchapp/couchapp/blob/master/resources/scripts/couchapp
[14:26] <pangratz> so i try to run "java -jar jythonlib.jar"
[14:26] <pangratz> and then "from couchapp.dispatch import run"
[14:27] <pangratz> and the i'll get an error: "ImportError: cannot import name Resource"
[14:29] <agronholm> looks like it depends on a C extension
[14:29] <agronholm> ssl2.c
[14:30] <agronholm> did this come as a surprise?
[14:30] <pangratz> well, yes
[14:31] <agronholm> unless you get rid of this, you can forget using couchapp under jython
[14:31] <pangratz> ok
[14:31] <pangratz> well, though not that what i wanted to hear, thank you very very much for your time!!

[23:46] <agronholm> do you have jasperreports.jar in your CLASSPATH?
[23:59] <qb89dragon> yes it is in the classpath, i import it using sys.path.append
