[0:51] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: nice!
[0:52] <agronholm> bitbucket won't let me upload the .jar distributions though
[0:52] <agronholm> it accepts the upload but shows nothing in the downloadable files list
[0:52] <agronholm> this is after I already uploaded the two files once and deleted them afterwards

[11:59] <juneau001> agronholm: Congrats on the release of Jython-Swingutils v1.0b1
[11:59] <agronholm> thx
[12:00] <agronholm> I have found the binding and threads features particularly useful
[12:00] <agronholm> I only hope that others will too
[12:17] <juneau001> agronholm: I plan to check it out when I have a chance....maybe I can help promote it with the podcast/newsletter
[12:17] <agronholm> that'd be great
[12:18] <juneau001> I will definitely mention it in the next one to let people know that they should test
[12:18] <agronholm> I remember that the newsletter mentioned a "release" of v0.1 way back, without my consent (it wasn't anywhere near ready back then)
[12:18] <juneau001> sorry about that
[12:19] <juneau001> I just mention the news as it comes to me
[12:20] <juneau001> If you ever have anything specific that you'd like mentioned then please let me konw
[12:20] <juneau001> know
[12:21] <agronholm> well, I think everything relevant was mentioned in the mailing list post I made
[12:21] <juneau001> sounds good

[15:12] <jimbaker> aleff: very cool work with niosted. twisted very early on had support for jython (and some subset now runs again)
[15:14] * pigletto (~pigletto@dur164.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl) has joined #jython
[15:14] <jimbaker> however, i don't believe there's a specific jython reactor in twisted, which is unfortunate, since so much twisted performance depends on the reactor perf. so niosted could be very helpful in several ways

[19:53] <jimbaker> glad that headius blogged on eclipse memory analyzer, because it's a great tool for diagnosing memory leaks. looks like i have the fix for http://bugs.jython.org/issue1660 - socket memory leak
[19:53] <jimbaker> it's actually a thread memory leak
[20:21] <Oti> jimbaker - great to have 1660 fixed - thanks!
[20:22] <jimbaker> yes, it looked like it could be a blocker. fortunately the change was all of 13 characters
[20:22] <jimbaker> so it should be fixed in r7135 - just need to add an appropriate test to close out the bug
[20:23] <Oti> cool
[20:24] <jimbaker> maybe i should run eclipse memory analyzer on the regrtest...
[20:24] <Oti> that can always help
[20:26] <jimbaker> Oti: i think we are still on track for a 2.5.2 rc1 this weekend
[20:26] <Oti> i hope so - i am working on 1639 and 1661 - hope to get those in as well
[20:28] <Oti> i am currently tethering via my iphone, so i am a bit afraid of the full-build and the upload to source forge - maybe i have to find an internet cafe...
[20:28] <jimbaker> Oti: on vacation right now?
[20:29] <Oti> jimbaker: exactly - hiking in the alps
[20:29] <jimbaker> i'm going to boston/new england on vacation myself for the next week
[20:30] <jimbaker> sounds like a great thing to do. we've been having splendid weather in the colorado rockies, so i got a lot of hiking in recently
[20:32] <Oti> so greetings to boston, and enjoy the foliage!
[20:46] * pr3d4t0r (~cu4cu4@varenka.cime.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
[20:48] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki - looks like there's a memory leak in partial parsing, but this is really only going to matter for something like regrtest, so ok to defer until 2.6
[20:48] <jimbaker> (very low priority for certain)
[20:51] <jimbaker> the other thing one sees in memory analysis of jython's heap dump is that sys.modules only grows over time (just the nature of python here). the only solution is to manage this with an appropriate app container. but also more of a regrtest type issue where we are trying to get some coverage on a lot of the stdlib
[20:57] <jimbaker> (the other conclusion i have is don't try running jvisualvm, eclipse mat, intellij, regrtest - with heapdumps periodically! - all at the same time. plus chrome. need more memory, this system is thrashing)
[21:02] * Oti (~ohumbel@gprs35.swisscom-mobile.ch) Quit (Quit: Oti)
[21:08] <fwierzbicki> jimbaker: oh dear -- partial parsing needs a complete overhaul at some point, it is a just enough solution atm.
[21:09] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki: it looks like it's holding on to a lot of stuff. fortunately it's only used by console + doctest, so we can tolerate the memory leak
[21:10] <fwierzbicki> cool - down the road I'll have to get you to help me reproduce the diagnosis. It could be a trivial fix (or it's part of the we-make-too-many-big-ugly-ast-nodes problem)
[21:11] <jimbaker> at the first checkpoint i did of regrtest, it's about 20% of the memory consumption
[21:11] <jimbaker> most likely pretty trivial
[21:11] <fwierzbicki> sure, I it hangs on to ast trees it might need (more than it should)
[21:11] <fwierzbicki> s/I it/I bet/
[21:14] <jimbaker> actually it appears to be in the lexer
[21:14] <jimbaker> not in AST
[21:17] <fwierzbicki> oh interesting
[21:17] <fwierzbicki> that's why profiling is so important, intuition is largely useless :)
[21:18] <jimbaker> specifically org.python.antlr.PythonPartialLexer
[21:18] <jimbaker> intuition is good, but profiling is necessary for these final touches ;)
[21:18] <jimbaker> so that's partially generated code
[21:19] <fwierzbicki> sure - one thing to try is to see if there is a new antlr version out and if so, upgrade - that I could do before the weekend.
[21:21] <jimbaker> makes sense. i just looked at the underlying grammar file (grammar/PythonPartial.g) - nothing here looks like it would hold anything
[21:21] <fwierzbicki> yep we are on 3.1.3 and the latest is 3.2
[21:22] <jimbaker> so it could be in the generated code. worth upgrading. you will want to run eclipse memory analyzer, then do the leak suspects report
[21:23] <jimbaker> the other upgrade we should do is of guava
[21:23] <fwierzbicki> ok
