[23:46] <Numix> How do I install jython 2.7 on Ubuntu. I have Jython 2.5.3 (, Jun 15 2015, 23:50:27)
[23:47] <agronholm> Numix: download the installer and run it
[23:49] <Numix> Ok was looking in the wiki and did not find the install and was confused. Found it on the official site
[23:50] <Numix> Is the wiki dead?
[23:50] <agronholm> mostly unmaintained
[23:51] <Numix> Ok. Android support is not coming anytime soon right?
[23:51] <agronholm> right
[23:52] <agronholm> android has other python implementations
[23:52] <agronholm> I recall there are at least three of them
[23:52] <Numix> Only one I think. I use Kivy. I think all of them use the same backend like SL4A
[23:55] <Numix> Looks like I'm wrong Kivy maybe using something else.
[23:55] <jimbaker> we have talked about android, but that's a comparatively difficult target
[23:55] <Numix> Either way I think only Kivy compiles
[23:56] <Numix> to an apk
[23:56] <agronholm> jimbaker: methinks jython has more important goals than that
[23:56] <agronholm> but that's just my 2 cents
[23:56] <jimbaker> agronholm is completely right about that
[23:57] <agronholm> in the short term, getting 2.7.1 out :)
[23:57] <jimbaker> yep, something like that. we are really, really almost there
[23:57] <Numix> So what is Jython used for by the normal users? I don't see any use case other than bypassing govt tender restriction which forces Java or .net for the projects.
[23:58] <jimbaker> Numix, i have no insight into such requirements by govts
[23:58] <jimbaker> basically you use it to integrate tightly with java - in the same process - but run regular python code
[23:58] <jimbaker> that's a fairly useful thing to do
