[16:11] <fwierzbicki> The new contributor I'm working with named Jeff Allen uses Windows as his default environment - it will be nice to have a real windows person around :)
[16:20] <lrojas> hi all, quick question i came to know about Jython after testing an app called Sikuli, Sikuli uses Jython 2.5.2, but i'm wondering, what's the roadmap for Jython, when is compatibility with 2.7.2 expected?
[16:37] <agronholm> I think Frank mentioned something about a 2.7 release coming up this summer
[16:43] <sabi> lrojas: http://fwierzbicki.blogspot.com/2012/03/adconion-to-fund-jython-27.html is basically it. fwierzbicki is working on it full-time from now until then, with some help from others.
[16:44] <lrojas> cool
[16:44] <lrojas> :D
[16:51] <fwierzbicki> yeah - the plan is to put a 2.7 out by July 15
[16:51] <fwierzbicki> lrojas: ^^^
[17:00] <agronholm> have we still figure out who has admin rights to this channel
[17:00] <agronholm> it'd be nice to finally get rid of the portuguese topic
[17:03] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: hmm let me try
[17:04] * fwierzbicki changes topic to '#jython Try Jython 2.5.3b1 at http://tinyurl.com/jython253b1 | This channel is logged: http://jython.extreme.st/irclogs/ | Please update the wiki: http://wiki.python.org/jython | Jython Book: http://jythonbook.com | Podcast: http://www.jythonpodcast.com'
[17:05] <fwierzbicki> ok that wasn't quite right :)
[17:05] * fwierzbicki changes topic to 'Try Jython 2.5.3b1 at http://tinyurl.com/jython253b1 | This channel is logged: http://jython.extreme.st/irclogs/ | Please update the wiki: http://wiki.python.org/jython | Jython Book: http://jythonbook.com | Podcast: http://www.jythonpodcast.com'
[17:05] <agronholm> \o/
[17:06] <fwierzbicki> huh so I must have some ops powers
[17:07] <fwierzbicki> it appears to ignore me when I try to pass ops privs to you agronholm
[17:07] <agronholm> you probably need to do that via chanserv
[17:11] * fwierzbicki looks up chanserv
[17:13] <sabi> yay, no more people confused about what language we speak :)
[17:16] <fwierzbicki> I also got rid of the pastebin since it hasn't worked for a while
[17:18] <fwierzbicki> the chanserv help seems empty here -- apparently there are two different ways that ops privs are managed (levels vs userlists) - and they are incompatible - does anyone know what is used here?
[17:22] <fwierzbicki> ok "chanserv info" helped - probably an important clue "Mode lock : -st"
[17:26] <agronholm> fwierzbicki: so you already tried /msg chanserv op agronholm?
[17:26] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: just found that command - trying :)
[17:26] <agronholm> or rather, /msg chanserv op #jython agronholm
[17:26] * ChanServ sets mode +o agronholm
[17:26] <fwierzbicki> aha!
[17:27] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, agronholm, finally!
[17:27] <fwierzbicki> yeah seriously
[17:27] <fwierzbicki> so if you get another user like that one kick away
[17:27] * agronholm (~Demi-god@nblzone-211-37.nblnetworks.fi) has left #jython
[17:27] * agronholm (~Demi-god@nblzone-211-37.nblnetworks.fi) has joined #jython
[17:28] <agronholm> seems that was just temporary
[17:28] <fwierzbicki> oh weird
[17:28] <agronholm> what about /msg ChanServ ACCESS #jython ADD agronholm OP
[17:28] <fwierzbicki> I'll give it a a try
[17:28] <fwierzbicki> no chanserv ignored me on that one
[17:29] <fwierzbicki> probably plankton has to do it
[17:29] <agronholm> or transfer foundership to you?
[17:29] <fwierzbicki> plankton is the channel owner
[17:30] <fwierzbicki> ah possibly - though I'd need to study some IRC to make sure I don't screw things up :)
[17:37] <fwierzbicki> it would probably be safer to give plankton an ops list
[17:41] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: try now
[17:41] <fwierzbicki> I tried "FLAGS irc://irc.freenode.net/#jython agronholm +O"
[17:42] * agronholm (~Demi-god@nblzone-211-37.nblnetworks.fi) has left #jython
[17:42] * agronholm (~Demi-god@nblzone-211-37.nblnetworks.fi) has joined #jython
[17:42] * ChanServ sets mode +o agronholm
[17:42] <agronholm> huh.
[17:42] <fwierzbicki> yay!
[17:42] <fwierzbicki> is that the right thing?
[17:43] <agronholm> seems that way :)
[17:43] <agronholm> thanks
[17:43] <fwierzbicki> sure thing :)
[17:43] <agronholm> btw, remember my @inlineCallbacks thing?
[17:43] <fwierzbicki> I must have my ops in a different way - I don't get the promoted message
[17:44] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: yes of course
[17:44] <agronholm> I'm trying to do the same with Qt (PySide) now
[17:44] <fwierzbicki> oh cool!
[17:44] <agronholm> Qt has this slots and signals system
[17:45] <agronholm> so the code I ended up with looks quite different from what it was with in jython-swingutils
[17:49] <fwierzbicki> The idea of a consistent way to queue up gui commands is pretty cool
[17:50] <agronholm> fwierzbicki: reading tracebacks from such code is hell...
[17:50] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: ah - ouch
[17:50] <agronholm> having language support for this would be nice
[17:50] * enebo (~enebo@65-128-218-235.mpls.qwest.net) Quit (Quit: enebo)
[17:51] <agronholm> although chained exceptions will likely help a lot here
[17:51] <fwierzbicki> seems true of all tracebacks from systems that cover over a callback system
[17:51] <fwierzbicki> well maybe not *all*
[17:52] <fwierzbicki> but it's a hazard I guess
[17:53] <fwierzbicki> Guido mentioned that he likes the gevent style of async programming - it seems that there will be some sort of support for something like this down the road.
[17:53] <agronholm> I still have no clue how gevent works its magic
[17:53] <agronholm> probably some C API level thing
[17:53] <fwierzbicki> me neither - I think jimbaker has looked at it some
[17:54] <fwierzbicki> I wonder if I should have set you to +o via FLAGS instead - I have a +o in my list of privileges
[17:54] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, agronholm, yes, gevent would be a very cool addition for jython. however we would need the java coroutine support
[17:54] <jimbaker> maybe that will come in java 8
[17:55] <jimbaker> i know charlie nutter has been a huge proponent of that functionality
[17:55] <fwierzbicki> maybe - I saw that there are real plans for at least lambda to make it in
[17:55] <fwierzbicki> so maybe there is hope
[17:55] <agronholm> as I recall lambdas were supposed to go into java 7 already
[17:55] <fwierzbicki> yeah the cut a bunch of things to get it out
[17:55] <fwierzbicki> s/the/they/
[17:55] <fwierzbicki> but promised to get those cuts back in for 8
[17:56] <fwierzbicki> well "promised" may be strong
[17:56] <fwierzbicki> scheduled is more like it
[17:58] <jimbaker> http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/mlvm-dev/2011-April/002862.html
[17:58] <jimbaker> "Coro in Java 8"
[17:59] <jimbaker> so certainly popular in jvm lang community
[18:00] <jimbaker> btw, if we had such coro support, we could do some rather interesting optimizations, depending on how efficient if they were - if we could run all code in a coro for example, it would be the equivalent of having frame support
[18:01] <jimbaker> which makes sense - they are effectively equivalent
[18:41] * enebo (~enebo@mobile-198-228-205-243.mycingular.net) has joined #jython
[19:08] <agronholm> damn this is trickier than I thought at first
