[16:21] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: I managed to get things running on Windows but I'd love to hear how it works for someone who uses windows all of the time :) -- something was goofy with running regrtest.py outside of ant - I need to investigate that
[16:22] <agronholm> I only use Windows for entertainment
[16:22] <agronholm> I do all my serious work on Linux
[16:22] <fwierzbicki> ah - so maybe my testing is just as good :)
[16:23] <fwierzbicki> In the past I've put out releases that didn't even start up on windows - so at least that's not the case with this beta
[16:23] <fwierzbicki> very embarrassing - so I had to do another release the same day
[16:23] <agronholm> if the tests pass on Windows, that should be enough
[16:24] <fwierzbicki> the entire test suite has never passed on windows to my knowledge - but it passes a large %
[16:24] <agronholm> what tests are failing
[16:24] <agronholm> should those be skipped?
[16:24] <fwierzbicki> which should get fixed - but we'd need a windows person
[16:25] <fwierzbicki> possibly - looking at the ant file their may be extra skips that someone else put in
[16:25] <fwierzbicki> I need to investigate more (I have a windows VM up and running now)

[18:47] * C_Kode (~C_Kode@38.100.172.10) has joined #jython
[18:47] <C_Kode> Hi. In jython if I want to use the subprocess module, I just "import subprocss" correct?
[18:48] <C_Kode> If so. Has anyone used jython as an embbeded scripting language? I have xWiki and it has jython, but I can't import any modules. I ask in #xwiki, but they all say they aren't python guys and don't know.
[18:53] <C_Kode> Hmm. I got it. I have to use os.popen. It doesn't have subprocess
[18:53] * C_Kode (~C_Kode@38.100.172.10) has left #jython
[18:58] * KevinH (~Kevin@c-76-114-22-26.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has joined #jython
[19:00] <KevinH> I'm trying to track down a problem calling a PyReflectedFunction where the Java method has 2 arguments. What's going on is as PyReflectedFunction.__call__ gets executed it checks the calledStatically variable, which is false, and then determines that the first argument of the two passed in should now be self.
[19:00] <KevinH> As far as I can tell, calledStatically can't ever possibly be true. It starts false, and there's no code path that sets it true.
[19:01] <KevinH> I am running code that worked in Jython 2.1, but now in 2.5 I'm running into this.
[19:01] <KevinH> Any ideas?
[19:02] <fwierzbicki> ouch that's tangly - any chance you could supply a small bit of code that reproduces this? Best of all if you could submit it as a bug report. I'm guessing this one will take some investigation
[19:02] <fwierzbicki> KevinH: ^^^
[19:03] <KevinH> I'll try to create a self-contained example. It may take some time. This is all tangled up in a very large bit of software...
[19:03] <fwierzbicki> KevinH: ok - a lot has changed since 2.1
[19:04] <KevinH> Yeah, I noticed that...
[19:04] <KevinH> I thought I had all the kinks worked out, but just stumbled upon this one today.
[19:04] <fwierzbicki> sure - so are you subclassing any internal Jython classes from Java? I know that can cause some trouble with 2.1 -> 2.5 migrations
[19:05] <KevinH> Yes... there's a few.
[19:06] <KevinH> We have a bunch of "wrapper" classes that extend PyObject and then do some intercepting in __findattr__ex and __setattr__ type calls
[19:06] <fwierzbicki> another avenue is to post to the jython-users list - lots of folks there have actually done these sorts of migrations
[19:06] <KevinH> Ok
[19:06] <fwierzbicki> KevinH: I see - that could be part of it
[19:07] <KevinH> I'm not sure any of these wrapper classes are coming in to play on this particular problem though.
[19:07] <KevinH> They definitely needed modification during the 2.1 to 2.5 transition though.
[19:49] <KevinH> Sheesh
[19:49] <KevinH> finally managed to wrap something up into a self-contained example
[19:49] <KevinH> Going to lunch now. Will package and upload somewhere when I'm back and send it to mailing list and post a link here.
[19:55] * tikfreenode is now known as Tiktalik
[19:56] <agronholm> fwierzbicki: anything I can help with regarding the release?

[20:59] <fwierzbicki> agronholm: I don't think so - I have testing on windows going

[21:24] <KevinH> fwierzbicki, this is a short, self-contained executable example of the problem I'm running into: http://files.inductiveautomation.com/jython/JythonSSCEE.zip
[21:25] <KevinH> It's an eclipse project set up and pointing to a jython 2.5.2 jar, just need to run Main#main(String[]) as java app from eclipse.
[21:27] * jimbaker` (~jbaker@c-75-71-80-146.hsd1.co.comcast.net) has joined #jython
[21:27] <fwierzbicki> KevinH: does it depend on Eclipse or can I just run it manually? I don't use Eclipse much....
[21:27] <KevinH> you can run it manually as long as you've got jython 2.5.2 on your classpath
[21:27] <fwierzbicki> ok, cool - I'll try to have a look tonight
[21:27] <KevinH> thank you
[21:28] <KevinH> you can get ahold of me if you need: kevinherron@gmail.com
[21:29] <fwierzbicki> KevinH: ok - I'll probably put together a bug report to track it, I'll let you know when I've had a look
