[18:12] <jimbaker> at the sikuli talk: very impressive to see sikuli's adoption. i like what tom yeh its creator says: it's enabling effortless AI for a greater range of developers
[18:16] <agronholm> perhaps I should take a look too...I've been wondering how to create unit tests for my Jython Swing apps
[18:16] <jimbaker> agronholm, sikuli has this philosophy: what you see is what you script. it can work with swing. or ios. or android.
[18:17] <jimbaker> basically all popular gui platforms
[18:17] <agronholm> I wonder why it requires 32-bit Java on Windows though
[18:18] <jimbaker> agronholm, probably just packaging
[18:20] <fwierzbicki> I am currently working on a 2.5.3 release - I've even re-grabbed the annoying oracle and informix dependencies (I really should make mock versions of these someday - not today though) - the long part will probably be making sure it works on windows - I need to create a windows VM etc.
[18:20] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, good to know!
[18:20] <fwierzbicki> I know I'm late on this - but I expect to have an RC today or tomorrow
[18:21] <agronholm> awesome.
[18:21] <agronholm> I can finally move beyond sqlalchemy 0.7.2 :)
[18:21] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, i think we just need to rely on our windows devs for this. but if you need windows, we do have access to the msdn subscriptions as core python devs
[18:22] <fwierzbicki> jimbaker: I have a copy of windows from the msdn subscription, I just need to get it running -- too many RCs have completely failed on windows for me not to at least check :)
[18:22] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, :)
[18:23] <fwierzbicki> it's too embarrassing to release RC2 10 minutes after RC1 :)
[18:23] <jimbaker> i guess if we are updating jar dependencies, for sure
[18:24] <fwierzbicki> For the moment I'm just releasing what's there - that would be a good idea for 2.5.4 though
[18:24] <jimbaker> maybe we could do a quick pilot? it's worth asking on #python-dev if we can get some support on this too. iirc briancurtin is pretty active on windows dev
[18:25] <fwierzbicki> well if I do that I won't be forced to get a windows VM up and then I may never do it :)
[18:25] <fwierzbicki> it's ok I have time today
[18:25] <jimbaker> ok, just want to make sure you don't get bogged down
[18:26] <jimbaker> agronholm, do you use windows? sounds like it from your msg about 32-bit java on windows a few min back?
[18:26] <agronholm> yes
[18:26] <agronholm> though I dev on linux
[18:26] <agronholm> I use them side by side
[18:27] <jimbaker> agronholm, ok, i would just propose you work w/ fwierzbicki so we can expedite this RC1. should be quick - i think just need to verify the install and run the regrtest
[18:27] <jimbaker> seems like something sikuli should be able to do on a buildbot/jenkins slave... :)
[18:28] <agronholm> can sikuli run headless?
[18:28] <agronholm> I doubt that
[18:28] <jimbaker> agronholm, great question. i'm going to have dinner with its creator today, so i should get some insight there
[18:28] <agronholm> ok :)
[18:42] * stakkars (~tismer@p5DDB6A94.dip.t-dialin.net) has joined #jython
[19:16] <fwierzbicki> ah I see we have done beta point releases in the past - I'll do that just because this is the first release from mercurial
[19:18] <fwierzbicki> jimbaker: BTW I'm working with a very promising dev on some Jython core work who uses Windows as his primary OS.
[19:19] <fwierzbicki> I need to find out if he is a student for GSOC - I'd actually come out of GSOC mentor retirement for him....
[19:40] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, sounds like a good plan. i believe we will be talking about gsoc at pycon

[22:20] <fwierzbicki> ok, soft launch of Jython 2.5.3b1: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jython/files/jython-dev/2.5.3b1/jython_installer-2.5.3b1.jar/download
[22:20] <fwierzbicki> I'll keep poking at it - I'm very rusty at this :)
[22:23] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, it will come back :)
[22:23] <fwierzbicki> ha - the mercurial stuff made it a tad more complex - but not as bad as I had expected
[22:24] <fwierzbicki> though of course my rough solution needs refinement
[22:24] * shashank (~shashank@ucb-np2-216.colorado.edu) Quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[22:25] <fwierzbicki> BTW I put the release branch here in a partial copy of the way cpython does it: http://hg.python.org/jython-releasing/2.5.3/
[22:25] <fwierzbicki> now I need to figure out how to merge it back
