[23:42] <fwierzbicki> decoder: you still there?
[23:42] * fwierzbicki says 6 hours later :(
[23:43] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, hi too
[23:43] <fwierzbicki> jimbaker: hey - how are things?
[23:43] <jimbaker> going to cape town next week for a canonical sprint - our cloud stuff seems to be working quite well
[23:44] <fwierzbicki> cool! This is ensemble, right?
[23:45] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, yes it's the ensemble project. at some point we will be probably be working more closely together
[23:45] <fwierzbicki> I bet!
[23:46] <jimbaker> i must say, the launchpad and bzr integration do really work well together. i'm a big fan of the review system we have in place
[23:48] <jimbaker> fwierzbicki, i do wonder what we can do to get jython up to speed on that. are you going to be at pycon?
[23:48] <jimbaker> i will be giving a talk on jython concurrency
[23:49] <fwierzbicki> I am going to the pre-conference and the conference, but I can't make the sprints this year
[23:49] <jimbaker> me too, i will be at the language summit, but no vm summit this time around
[23:49] <jimbaker> nor sprints
[23:50] <fwierzbicki> I hear that pycon 2012-2013 was going to be in my neck of the woods - so maybe I'll make the whole thing next year
[23:50] <fwierzbicki> though googling doesn't confirm that
[23:50] <jimbaker> i have a crazy enough travel schedule w/ the cape town sprints immediately before pycon
[23:50] <fwierzbicki> yeah - part of it is my travel schedule - always Europe since most of Landscape is there
[23:51] <jimbaker> the funny thing about cape town is that it's central for a relatively group of people that are coming. but not for the US people!
[23:51] <jimbaker> relatively large
[23:51] <fwierzbicki> I have been working on Jython from a bzr branch, it seems to work fine except that external repos are not supported yet
[23:51] <fwierzbicki> that is one external is
[23:52] <fwierzbicki> just not svn:external
[23:52] <fwierzbicki> so I had to pull in CPython/Lib manually
[23:52] <fwierzbicki> but other than that it works fine
[23:52] <jimbaker> the one thing about bzr that would be nice is the support of loom
[23:53] <jimbaker> hg has a similar project, pbranch
[23:53] <fwierzbicki> I haven't used loom
[23:53] <jimbaker> but it allows for much more nuanced control of external dependencies that we happen to be patching
[23:53] <fwierzbicki> Is it a git thing?
[23:53] <jimbaker> loom is part of bzr
[23:53] <fwierzbicki> so one thing that is nice about bzr is the support of loom?
[23:54] <fwierzbicki> I stumbled on "would be"
[23:54] <fwierzbicki> oh
[23:54] <fwierzbicki> would be for Jython
[23:54] <jimbaker> yes, i was asking robert collins about our options
[23:55] <fwierzbicki> If we could get our history pulled over and it wouldn't take long, it would be hard to argue
[23:55] <fwierzbicki> against it
[23:55] <jimbaker> basically it would allow much better control of long-term patches that we would like to merge upstream to cpython
[23:55] <fwierzbicki> since hg has taken so long
[23:55] <jimbaker> as might be imagined, this is a big use case for ubuntu itself
[23:55] <pjenvey> speaking of which, you guys are both PSF members. I recall PSF sponsoring hg guys to work on the migration a couple years ago at pycon
[23:56] <pjenvey> can we query the PSF to do something similar for the jython migration (if the potential hg guys aren't gonna be busy with the cpython move)
[23:56] <jimbaker> pjenvey, they actually tried to do the migration for jython last year
[23:56] <jimbaker> at pycon
[23:56] <pjenvey> right and there are problems with hgsubversion
[23:56] <pjenvey> that need fixing first
[23:56] <fwierzbicki> pjenvey: yeah - there where problems w/ subbranches
[23:56] <jimbaker> but after a week, they still hadn't completed it
[23:57] <fwierzbicki> I just want Jython on a dvcs - I'm fairly open personally
[23:57] <pjenvey> the one hgsubversion bug that is blocking them hasn't been solved yet. AFAICT talking to djirkman that's the main (maybe only) blocker
[23:57] <jimbaker> now i like hg and git and bzr - all good. but the loom functionality is very compelling
[23:57] <pjenvey> but it sounds like a fairly involved issue
[23:58] <jimbaker> and unlike pbranches it seems to be well used
[23:58] <pjenvey> I haven't done much at all with bzr but I hate launchpad =P
[23:58] <fwierzbicki> pjenvey: so it comes down (for me) and which dvcs we could get on the quickest
[23:58] <jimbaker> pjenvey, i have gotten used to it
[23:58] <pjenvey> just never liked its UI
[23:59] <jimbaker> probably the best part is a new kanban story visualization that ensemble and probably launchpad has been using
[23:59] <fwierzbicki> pjenvey: I'm with jimbaker, it's not bad once you've used it for a bit
[23:59] <jimbaker> much better
[23:59] <jimbaker> the bug and branch integration is really killer
[23:59] <fwierzbicki> and the merge requests are nice (again once you're used to it)
