[7:32] <pitonew> About using Bing... my bad, i scared myself too :-) In fact the original website was/is not responding, so I used my trustfull google cache, but erk... only one of the 2 links i was searching for was cached... So i thought may be yahoo has also cache, then a split of a second I thought what's this thing called ... Bing, let
[7:34] <pitonew> let's see how broken Bing could be... It turned out they have good search result, and cached what i was looking for. I still love google, gmail, reader, etc..... but interesting to see that some microsoft services are good to. competition is good in that way.

[13:51] <adiroiban> hi. It is possible to have a python and a java class in the same package? If I have org/module/file_python.py and org/module/file_java.class, can I import org.module.file_java from file_python.py ?
[13:51] <adiroiban> or are there any best practices for organizing a jython project ?
[13:56] * stakkars (~tismer@i59F7EDD9.versanet.de) Quit (Read error: Operation timed out)
[14:01] <sabi> adiroiban: just have separate sets of directories, etc
[14:01] <sabi> use python conventions for python, java conventions for java
[14:01] <sabi> so python wouldn't use the domain style package naming for exmaple.
[14:02] <adiroiban> sabi: thanks!

[20:00] <adiroiban> do you have any hints regarding what path to use inside a jar to access a file?
[20:20] <agronholm_> huh?
[20:20] <agronholm_> explain
[20:20] <agronholm_> you want to load a file from inside a jar?
[20:23] <agronholm_> adiroiban, ?
[20:23] <adiroiban> agronholm_: yes. I have a couple of icons
[20:23] <adiroiban> and I would like to distribute them in a single jar
[20:24] <agronholm_> you can load them with java's class loader functions
[20:24] <adiroiban> containig jython + my code and data
[20:24] <adiroiban> agronholm_: ok. so there are no jython helpers?
[20:24] <agronholm_> no
[20:24] <agronholm_> jython contains only a minimal amount of java glue
[20:25] <adiroiban> thanks.
[20:25] <agronholm_> classloader = Thread.currentThread().contextClassLoader
[20:25] <agronholm_> resource = classloader.getResource("whatever/path/to/your/file.png")
[20:38] <adiroiban> trying... the path is relative to the jar root or where should I start :D ?
[20:41] * thobe (~Adium@c83-249-252-237.bredband.comhem.se) has joined #jython
[20:47] <agronholm_> adiroiban, yes
[20:48] <adiroiban> agronholm_: yes. It is working. thanks. I had to use getResourceAsStream since the URL was not of much use

[21:00] <agronholm_> pr3d4t0r, ping...need your opinion on something
[21:00] * agronholm_ is now known as agronholm
[21:01] <agronholm> I need a synchronous, fault-tolerant distributed filesystem between two machines
[21:01] <agronholm> for linux
[21:01] <agronholm> is drbd the right choice?
[21:02] * sabi (~nicholas@fortinbras.zoiks.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)

[21:05] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: Hej.
[21:05] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: What may I do for you?
[21:05] * pr3d4t0r looks at the scroll back.
[21:06] <agronholm> the company who uses my ERP just got a new server
[21:07] <agronholm> they want to put the old one to good use
[21:07] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: OKi.
[21:07] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: Other than synchronous and fault-tolerant, anything else? Is this a general file system?
[21:07] <agronholm> yeah, general stuff like /home and some other fileshares
[21:08] <agronholm> I'm currently doing nfs between them
[21:08] <agronholm> I'll have to upgrade the OS of the older box to be able to do drbd
[21:09] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: What's wrong with NFS?
[21:09] <agronholm> it's not fault tolerant
[21:09] <agronholm> the server goes down, all files become unavailable
[21:09] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: Gotcha.
[21:10] <agronholm> we already have smtp redundancy, I'll have to set up redundancy for DHCP, web and that ERP app
[21:11] <agronholm> I made a mistake when I agreed to transfer the DNS service to the ISP's care
[21:12] <agronholm> they do nothing but fuck up my updates
[21:12] <agronholm> EVERY SINGLE TIME
[21:14] <agronholm> I took a look at the available solutions for distributed filesystems
[21:14] <agronholm> there's quite a selection
[21:14] <agronholm> but most are unsuitable for my purposes
[21:15] <agronholm> drbd has kernel support (from 2.6.33, guess what I'm running, yeah, 2.6.32)
[21:17] <sabi> drbd is in pretty common use
[21:18] <agronholm> it is easily installable on ubuntu 10.04
[21:19] <agronholm> sabi, any experiences?
[21:19] <sabi> agronholm: not personally, but i have a friend who works at a large company and they use it extensively.
[21:19] <agronholm> well, it can't be totally bad then I guess :)
[21:23] * pigletto (~pigletto@dynamic-78-9-2-200.ssp.dialog.net.pl) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[21:32] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: I was just curious about having to reinstall an OS to support this; I figured there was some other functional requirement.
[21:32] <pr3d4t0r> agronholm: If it's only that you have an extra box - by all means! :)
[21:33] <agronholm> well I don't want to run two different major versions of ubuntu on these
[21:34] <agronholm> there is a practical problem too
[21:34] <agronholm> the old server was built on three 160Gb disks
[21:34] <agronholm> with raid1 + spare
[21:34] <agronholm> the new server has 500Gb disks
[21:35] <agronholm> so I'll have to raid5 them to get enough disk space to even cover /home

[21:52] <agronholm> the new server supports remote presence
[21:52] <agronholm> which is cool -- I installed the OS remotely from my home :)
